Friends in Published Places
Today is release day for Cynthia Eden’s MIDNIGHT SINS, and she’s kicking it off with a guest blog at Magical Musings. Stop by and congratulate her!
MIDNIGHT SINS should be in my mailbox any day now, but this last weekend I was able to buy Karin Tabke’s newly released MASTER OF TORMENT. I was reading another book yesterday, and picked up Torment to read just a few pages. Ha! I was pulled in from the first page. The other book can’t compete and Torment is on my desk now. Close at hand in case I have a few minutes to read.
My last friend is Zoe Winters, who is doing things differently. She started her own publishing and podcast company! The first thing she’s doing is releasing her novella KEPT, and she’s giving it away. You can download it and find out more about it here. You go, Zoe!
This is an awesome week for my friends, and I’m happy for all of them. Below is a video called “Wisdom.” In the end it’s all about love! Enjoy!

Thanks for the shout out, Edie!

Edie, you’re awesome. Just…great. Thanks for mentioning me–and for letting me know I could get my hands on Master of Torment! (Love that title!) I’ve been waiting eagerly for Zoe’s Kept, so that should be a fun read for me this holiday weekend.
Take care–and have a great Thanksgiving!

Cindy, I love that you’ve been waiting on KEPT, I love that anyone even gives a flip at all!
I think it’s beyond cool, that someone whose writing I’m a fan of, likes my stuff also.

Zoe, I was going to say “‘Different’ is Zoe’s ‘normal.’
I’m rooting for you! I want you to make a huge success.

Cindy, you’re going to be on the bestselling lists soon, and I’ll be bragging to people that you’re a friend.

Hi, Edie! Thanks for the introduction to your friends! I haven’t read anything by them, but will definitely check them out now! Best of luck to all three of them.

My very, very, very favorite quote is from Jane Goodall. That is SO true. That is what, I think, we’ve lost. I feel like our society has become a little too focused on instant gratification, on me and on now. It’s like advertising for materialistic things we don’t need has shaped our society’s values more than anything.
Then again, I love all the love quotes, too. A perfect ending.
You said last week that you were glad I was your friend. I’m so honored I’m yours, Edie!

Thanks, Edie!

Spy, I love that video. I’ll look up Jane Goodall’s quotes and try to guess which one if your favorite.
I agree about the materialism. The other day my son was talking about a car on steroids, as if that’s a good thing. But maybe that has nothing to do with materialism and everything to do with being a guy.
You said last week that you were glad I was your friend. I’m so honored I’m yours, Edie!
Aw.

Yep, gotta pick up Cynthia’s “Midnight Sin” in the very near future. I’m doing my best to resist “Master of Torment” since I’m in the middle of Keri Arthur’s “Destiny Kills”. (sigh) So many books, so little time. Definitely gonna have to check out Zoe’s “Kept”. At work right now, so I better wait until I get home to check it out.
Way to go, Zoe. Best of luck in your endeavours.

Zoe, I’m hoping you prove all the naysayers wrong!
November 25th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Liz, I feel the same way about all these books. Plus I want to get Carrie Lofty’s WHAT A SCOUNDREL WANTS. I love the premise!

I certainly have my copy of KEPT. Now, I have two more to add to my Christmas-Wish List. How awesome is that? Now, if only I can find the time to read all this stuff. Where’s the Powerball when you need it?

Marica, I feel the same way about time. I want so badly to read Karin’s book in one swallow and then hop on Zoe’s, but I have to write at least 5 pages tonight. I’m tired of not reaching my goal.

Happy release day to all!!!

Eli, soon it will be your release day! This must be so exciting!
November 25th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
Thanks, Liz!, I hope you like it.
Edie, as per the naysayers, there is nothing mystical about running a business. If I fail I get back up and figure it out. The only thing that could really hold me back is if I truly couldn’t write something that connected with people. And in that case, I would have to, after awhile, accept defeat. (But if that were the case, I wouldn’t make it the traditional way either.) But otherwise, there’s always a way to build an audience, if you have something people like and want to read. And I plan to keep learning and getting better.

Zoe, I love your plan! I feel the same way about defeat (rejections). Write smarter and write better! That’s my motto.

Yep!

Edie, thanks so much for the video gift! What an awesome collection of truths. And congrats to all our friends, and their happy release dates! I’m thankful for everyones good fortune!

LaDonna, it is lovely. The video and our friends’ news!
November 26th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
If you want, Edie, I can hold you accountable by harassing you every day.
November 26th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
Marcia, you can if you want! I’m going to make my goal tonight.

I love when great things happen for my friends, especially if it involves their works seeing the publishing light of day. We all know what a hard road it is, so when those offers, contracts and release dates come, it’s the end justifying the means - a reward for the effort.
I received news from two of my author friends. One received a contract with Samhain to publish her ebook, Stripped, and the other who had been told her fourth novel wasn’t going to get picked up got a reverse decision, and now it is.

Kath, I’m thrilled too that Marcia sold STRIPPED to Samhain. Great news about your friend’s fourth book! Love it when that happens!
